History
Indianapolis Badge & Nameplate Company was founded in 1948 and has operated continuously since then. The company was started by Walter Jones who had previously worked for the George J. Mayer Company of Indianapolis. Many of the dies of the Mayer Company ended up at Indianapolis Badge & Nameplate when it closed in the 1950’s.
Norman Kelly of Indianapolis purchased the company in the 1960’s and then sold it to Daniel M. Crichlow, Doug Crichlow, and David Crichlow in 1976. David Crichlow remains as the owner and president today.
The company’s original location was on Indianapolis’ near-east side at 3823 Massachusetts Avenue. In 1978 the company relocated to 25 McLean Place in Indianapolis and remained there until February of 2018 when it moved to its current location.
Originally Indianapolis Badge & Nameplate specialized in the manufacturing of stamped metal dog tax tags and swimming pool tags. Over the years the product line expanded to all kinds of identification products including nameplates, engraved tags, and signs.
Indianapolis Badge & Nameplate combines numerous materials (metals and plastics) and processes (stamping, embossing, etching, engraving, silk screening, photo anodizing, etc.) to produce custom products for a wide range of customer applications.

David Crichlow
Dave bought Indy Badge in 1976 with his dad, Dan, and his brother, Doug. Dave has been the president of the company since 1992. His knowledge and experience of manufacturing is invaluable! Dave’s strengths are patience and problem solving. He is up to almost any challenge and truly enjoys the small and intricate projects allowing him to challenge Indy Badge to try more and do more for our customers.

Daniel Crichlow
Daniel’s first job after college was as a golf professional at Old Oakland Golf Club on the east side of Indianapolis. He later transitioned into property and casualty insurance where he learned the art of quality customer service and attention to detail. In 2022 he joined the family business and is taking on increasing responsibilities toward leading the company.

Larry Gibson
Larry got his start working in the factory of Indy Badge soon after Dave and family took over. He specializes in all things related to our shop, whether that’s securing artwork, plotting our engraving machines, or stamping and polishing metals. Larry knows the ins and outs of all our equipment, manages factory staff, and still finds time to ensure the quality of our products.

Jenny Crichlow Sturgis
Jenny focuses on the various facets of marketing that revolve around digital media and technology, whether that’s search engine optimization and social media engagement or developing website content and email distribution. Prior to working with Indy Badge, Jenny managed marketing and communications for other local small businesses. She especially enjoys building a brand and identity for small business, enhancing presence, and storytelling.
